I heard a pastor say, “memorable moments often come after stewarding the mundane moments;” and I have held on tightly to this word ever since. What I once thought was “getting stuck in a rut” I discovered I neglected to properly steward the mundane moments of my life. The month of October has been a bit of a turning point for me in this regard. I realized that I undervalued my day-to-day routine by trying to live my life from one big event to the next. Aside from just romanticizing my everyday routine (which I am all for), I have learned to shift my perspective and my expectations; allowing myself to embrace the mundane and seek what the Lord is doing during this specific season.
“God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.”
–C. S. Lewis
She Is
She is, comforted by the Spirit, embraced in His arms. She is, anointed to do great things, empowered by His grace. She is, fearless and mighty, encouraged with wisdom. She is, destined to make a change. No longer held by the generational curse. She is the devils worst, nightmare, she is no stranger to the victory that the Lord has proclaimed. She knows the battle is in His hands, and she knows she doesn’t have to stand, alone. She knows who her Father in heaven is, and she knows where she belongs. She knows who she is, and she knows that she is strong. She is prepared for such a time as this, and she knows there is no opportunity to miss out on what God has for her. She is determined to stay in His will. She is unafraid of the future, and ready to step into her calling. She is confident and tenacious because she knows God always keeps His promise and will complete His good work. She knows that, she is here for a reason. She knows that, she is here on purpose.

This month, every day has been a great day. I can declare this because I made an effort to live each day of this month with Psalm 118:24 in mind (This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.). Gratitude is a daily practice, and it takes discipline to let everyday be a good day regardless of the circumstances. I am still in the thick of learning how to embrace the mundane moments of my life; but an observation I’ve arrived at is not only embracing the mundane but rather maximizing it. Seizing every opportunity.
I believe it is in everyone’s best interest to take inventory on where they are spending majority of their free time. Like a financial budget, where every dollar should have a place, the same can work with time. Every minute should be allocated (within reason). Curating a routine that works for you and not against you and disciplining yourself to stick to the routine regardless of how you feel enables you to maximize the time given to you. Fill your free time up things that are pure, holy, and worthy to be praised. This alone will help you steward your day-to-day routine. Stay close to the vine and the Lord will help you understand the current season you are in, and your specific assignment.
Further, I believe obtaining a true understanding of your identity and who you are in Christ will keep you focused; along with knowing that each day is filled with new mercies, and new opportunities. When you are confident in who you are and where God has you, it makes the journey worth it. You’ll be grateful for each day and the small things that culminate it. I have been freed from living my life from one big event to the next, because that’s exactly what I was doing. Filling my life with events. Therefore, it made sense that when life slowed down, I became bored and didn’t know what to do with myself. When there were months of nothing big to look forward to, I labeled myself as “being stuck in a rut”, and it took a huge toll on my mental health.
I’m not diminishing ruts because I know they are real, however I was unaware of my preconceived expectations of life, hence why I become so easily bored. Mundane moments are unavoidable. In fact, they are vital. What we call mundane, and just our normal day-to-day lives, is probably the most significant time we have. It’s an opportunity for development. It’s consistently showing up every day especially when we don’t feel like it. It’s worshiping and trusting God when He’s quiet and we’re doubting. It’s realizing that our faith is not only contingent upon the big miracles God does, and being grateful for just waking up. It’s not monotonously going through the motions, but understanding that He is there with us as our shelter, whether we feel it or not. It’s believing without seeing.
Truthfully speaking, this month has felt slow. So, I’ve had to constantly wash myself with His word and remind myself of my purpose and not lose sight. In these mundane moments, we are being strengthened and prepared. DON’T DRIFT. Keep showing up. Keep praying. Keep reading His Word. This is the time we are being developed, when life feels mundane, slow, and monotonous. However, remember that development takes time. If God deploys us without developing us first, then our assignment may destroy us.
This maturation is needed for wherever God wants to take you. Remember that right after David was anointed to become King he went back to his mundane life shepherding sheep. How are you stewarding your day-to-day life when it starts to feel slow and mundane? Are you still showing up consistently with excellence; honoring God in everything you do? Are you going deeper and understanding your assignment for the season you’re in, walking in your purpose? Are there habits you know you need to change for your spiritual, mental, or physical health? Are you also allowing yourself opportunities to rest so God can intervene? Whatever the case may be, we are all in this together. Growing, pruning, evolving, and maturing to become reflections of Christ.
